Summary: A Life of Small Changes
Every challenge was just a new change, Neville thought, as he watched Charlie calm a nervous dragon. Charlie spoke softly and did not rush. He had scars, but he laughed easily. When something went wrong, he tried again. Neville learned from that. The garden taught the same thing. If a plant failed, you changed the care and waited.
They built their life slowly. Mornings were quiet. The table had fruit in bowls. There were apples with small marks, pears that were too ripe, and grapes that burst when you bit them. Charlie ate quickly, standing, with juice on his fingers. Neville cut peaches and saved the stones, because saving things felt right.
Some days were hard. Frost ruined the figs. Fire broke the fence. Charlie hurt his wing and had to rest, even when he did not want to. Neville mixed new soil and tried different light. They talked, simply. They listened.
They fixed the roof after storms. They shared oranges in the evening and counted the seeds. Charlie kissed Neville and tasted of smoke and fruit. Neville kissed back and felt happily steady.
Tomorrow would bring another problem. That was normal. They would change again. They would stay together.
