A/N: The story Neville tells of Uncle Algie "forcing" to prove he was magical at a very young age always felt on the verge of abusive but I never quite figured out to write this from Neville's point of view. This was an interesting exercise in thinking about part of Neville's story that always intrigued and disturbed me.

Neville didn't learn how to swim until after the war. He thought there was nothing scarier than drowning, but that was before he stared down an enemy wand more times than he could count.

The first time he'd gone underwater, the thought seized Neville by the throat: I could die right now. He didn't have those words when he was young. Only the unexpected shove. The mistrust of old men that would outlive several bastards.

Neville used to tell the story bravely but it wasn't until he was older that he realized the truth. He should have never been pushed.
